Cleveland Township is in southwestern Columbia County, bordered by Northumberland County to the west and south. The South Branch Roaring Creek forms the county boundary. According to the United States Census Bureau, the township has a total area of 23.4 square miles.


Cleveland Township was formed in 1893 from the territory of Locust Township. The township of Cleveland was named after the president who had just been elected.
